Mary (Felder) Burke has been a lifelong resident of Waupaca, growing up just south of town near the Crystal River. She feels very fortunate to have been raised near the clear waters of the Crystal and then to have raised her children there, too. Now her grandchildren play near the same bends and flows of the crystal clear water near the historic village of Rural. After graduating from Waupaca High School, Mary traveled for many years before returning to the Waupaca area that she loves so much. It is no surprise that once again Mary lives along the Crystal River where she canoes, kayaks and appreciates the natural beauty of the meandering waters.
Mary describes herself as having an entrepreneurial spirit. She is a self-starter who is dedicated and creative in her personal life and professional endeavors. Mary has owned and operated several successful businesses, which eventually brought her to Real Estate. When selling her Rural home after 20 years of ownership her eyes were opened to a whole new world. Selling a home was a process with many stages to complete the sale. Penny was inspired to become a Realtor after purchasing her first home. It was such an exciting and meaningful accomplishment that she wanted others to have the same positive experience. So in 2006 Penny got her Realtor's license and later joined the United Country team. Waupaca native and third generation Salan, Scott Salan describes the area with great enthusiasm. Scott comments, “Waupaca is easy to find yet hard to leave. It is the natural beauty and spring-fed lakes that bring people here to vacation, then it calls them back to stay.” Scott knows the area well from residential to commercial and destination property for hunting, fishing and recreation. He has lived here all his life except for time away for college and some world travels. Scott returned to be closer to his family including his father Dr. Jerry Salan, who is a household name in Waupaca. Scott and his wife Stacy Jo both have their families nearby in addition to a lifetime of good friends. Scott graduated from Waupaca High School and was a boat captain for many summers on the Chief Waupaca Sternwheeler. He has spent countless hours on the Chain O'Lakes familiar with every shoreline, cottage, and year 'round residence. These days you may see Scott at a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting for new business owners or cruising the backroads on his motorcyle looking for vacant land listings. Scott also partnered with his family to prevent an icon to the tourist industry in Waupaca from closing. He is part owner of Tom Thumb Mini Golf, a Chain O'Lakes tradition since the '50s. Scott is a charter member of the Waupaca Community Foundation for programs to bring industry and commerce to the area. In his spare time he plays on league bowling teams as well as playing hockey.
Scott has a strong sense of hometown pride and tradition. His easy manner and quick chuckles will make you feel right at home too when working with Scott on your real estate transactions. Berta has lived all over the midwest from Chicago to Minneapolis but returned to her roots in the mid 80s. She has a background in sales and marketing, design, and business management. She has been part of the Rural Historical Society, Library Foundation Fund Raising Committee, WRA Scholarship Committee, Waupaca Area Chamber Tourism Committee, and voluteer for the Red Cross and Humane Society fund raising events.

Joe’s first trip to the Waupaca area and the Chain O' Lakes convinced him that this was truly a special place—-a place where he wanted to spend more time. Born and raised in Chicago and graduating from DePaul University with degrees in Marketing and Business Management, Joe enjoyed the hustle and bustle of city life for more than 30 years. After traveling extensively, developing strategic alliances for Fortune 500 Companies, Joe felt his heart calling him back to the unique quality of life in Waupaca. He was being tugged back in more ways than one by the magic of the Chain O'Lakes and the unique quality of life in Waupaca. He had fallen in love with a woman he met while they worked at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. She was from Waupaca and they often traveled to Waupaca to visit her family and friends. Then the young Udoni family began to grow and Joe knew in his heart that his 3 young daughters would love being raised in the same small town as their mother, Suzanne. Joe’s love for the area, the family ties and the desire to raise his family in a small town made the decision to listen to his heart an easy one.
The family moved and Joe’s work required a great amount of travel. He wanted to be with his family more and do all the things that attracted him here for so long. So he shifted careers and was able to stop the traveling so he could enjoy being with his family full time. The next decision to become a Realtor was also an easy one. What better way to promote the great quality of life he enjoyed in Waupaca than to help others find this special place, too.
Since opening the United Country office in Waupaca, with his brother-in-law Scott Salan, they have become one of the leading Real Estate offices marketing the Waupaca and the Chain O 'Lakes area to people throughout the country. He, along with his partner Scott Salan, have also helped to save an established icon on the Chain O’Lakes by buying and updating Tom Thumb Mini Golf, a Chain O’Lakes tradition since the ‘50s. Tom Thumb received the Grand Facelift Award from the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce. The renovation project will make it possible for generations of families to enjoy the same experiences while in the Chain O' Lakes area.
Joe and his family are quite involved with the Waupaca Chain Skiers, participating in and supporting the organization. Joe and his wife Suzanne are active with their family’s foundation, The Nancy Salan Scholarship Foundation, furthering education in the healthcare field through scholarships to students. Joe is a past Director of the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce, Waupaca Chamber Ambassadors, Dayton Township Comprehensive Planning Committee, member of the Chain O'Lakes Business Owners Association, and actively supports many of the local organizations from the Humane Society to the Riverside Health Foundation. Joe and Suzanne are also founding sponsors of the newly formed Waupaca Community Foundation which was created to promote investment and development in the Waupaca area.
